The Little Things from Home
It’s not the fancy things we buy
that bring a lasting smile;
It’s not the little things from home
that have the sweetest style.
The mischief in a small boy’s eye,
a babies dimpled grin –
Just little things we say and yet
they let the sunshine in.
A letter from a dear loved one,
a friend who comes to chat –
Nothing much, just friendly talk,
a wit of this and that.
The smell of good things cooking,
a gingerbread still war.
A home where loved ones gather’ round
to guard against life’s storms.
Little tots dressed in night clothes
saying prayers beside their beds
You can almost see the halos
resting on their heads.
Its not the costly things in life
that make the brighter days;
It’s just the little things from home
that chase the clouds away.
